Bhutan records first death linked with COVID-19

Thimpu — A man has died from COVID-19 for the first in the neighboring country Bhutan.

A 34-year-old man succumbed to the virus in the course of treatment at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital on Thursday, said Bhutan’s health ministry.

The patient had been admitted to Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 on December 21. He had also been suffering from kidney and liver-related ailments.

The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 771 in Bhutan. Currently, 305 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals and in-home isolations while 465 have recovered from the virus.

A many as 321,844 people have undergone PCR tests in the country so far, according to the health ministry. ( Input from agencies )
