Watford Charity Launches Safety Drive to Protect South Asian Homes

London — A Watford-based charity, One Vision, has partnered with Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to launch a new initiative aimed at protecting South Asian households from burglary.
The “Safer Communities Initiative – Empowering South Asian Households” responds to growing concerns that these families are disproportionately targeted, especially during festivals like Diwali and Eid. The project is led by One Vision founder and CEO Enoch Kanagaraj BEM, with support from senior police officials.
The initiative will run until August and includes multilingual burglary prevention workshops in temples, mosques, gurdwaras, and churches. Safety guides will be distributed in six languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.
Studies show South Asian homes are more vulnerable due to visible jewellery, cultural routines, and limited crime prevention outreach. Language barriers and underreporting further compound the issue.
“This is more than a crime prevention programme,” said Mr Kanagaraj. “It’s about building trust and empowering families.”
Police officials echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of inclusive, culturally sensitive policing. The initiative aims to engage over 300 residents and foster long-term community resilience.
