NEW DELHI : Tensions along the Line of Actual Control border between India and China have spiked after an Indian army officer and two soldiers were killed in the Galwan area of Ladakh, the Indian army said in a statement on Tuesday.

This is the first time in decades that a clash involving casualties has taken place on the 3,488 kilometre border between India and China.

Army sources say the soldiers were not shot but were killed in hand-to-hand combat on Indian Territory. Senior military representatives of both sides are meeting currently, according to an official statement. This is the first violent incident involving fatalities since 1975 between India and China, who fought a brief border war in 1962, NDTV writes.
