Priyanka Chopra criticised for supporting the Black Lives Matter after promoting skin lightening creams

 June 6, 2020

London — Priyanka Chopra and other Indian stars have been slammed for supporting the Black Lives Matter movement while endorsing skin lightening creams.

Priyanka, 37, shared a lengthy caption last week urging people to end the ‘race war’ following George Floyd’s death.

She wrote: ‘Wherever you live, whatever your circumstances, NO ONE deserves to die, especially at the hands of another because of their skin color. ⁣⁣’

The actress and her husband Nick Jonas have also donated to the Equal Justice Initiative and the ACLU to help fight systemic racism.

However, critics pointed out that Priyanka has previously endorsed ‘fairness creams’ in India and branded her a ‘hypocrite’.

One user shared an old Garnier advert Priyanka posed for to promote their ‘Light Ultra fairness and dark spots reduction cream’.

They wrote: ‘Pri was the face of skin lightening creams in india. Pri is part of the problem.’

In an old interview, the Quantico actress had said she would ‘never’ be associated with a fairness cream.

‘I’m dusky myself and I’m very proud to be dusky. I would never go around saying that you need to become fair and that’s the only way you’d be beautiful because I don’t endorse that,’ she said in the newly-resurfaced clip, Metro news writes.

The video was then cut with various advertisements Priyanka has starred in promising to give customers a ‘pinkish, white glow’.
